It's a......

Boy!
Yes we went for our ultrasound yesterday and saw a wonderful, healthy baby boy. Everyone was so excited. I am terrible at looking at the ultrasound and trying to guess gender so when the technician said there was "too much" stuff down there to be a girl I took her word for it! We are 20 weeks now so halfway there. Thanks for sharing this exciting moment with us.

Why I LOVE...

Homeschooling! Yesterday after the kids and I finished our learning time I realized how very thankful I was for what they had learned. I also realized that if my 5yo. Micah (yep he is 5 as of Aug. 23rd!) had been in regular school he would not have been with us to learn and he certainly would not have received this sort of instruction in school.

We are doing Sonlight again this year and starting on the Kindergarten curriculum. We have been reading the book Hero Tales and talking about Martin Luther and William Tyndale. I have been able to talk to my children about how we can not do enough good things to get us into heaven and how we can not buy our way in either. I have also seen the look of anguish on their faces when we talk about how Tyndale was burned at the stake because he translated the Bible into English even though it was illegal at the time. Also the great thing about all this is that I am learning right along with them. I already knew most of the stuff about Martin Luther but I really have learned a lot about Tyndale. Of course that is just the tip of the iceberg as far as what we are learning. Hopefully I will be able to share more as we go along!

And for your enjoyment here are a few Maddie quotes.
-Mommy Micah is antagonizing me! (where did she hear that you ask? daddy explained it to her the other day and she even used it in the right context!)
-While Michael was outside painting something Maddie wanted to help and after she was told no said "but daddy, God said you have to let me!"
Yes this is how Michael and I amuse ourselves sometimes in the evening, seeing who can one up the other with funny kid stories!

P.S. -Tune in soon because tomorrow we should find out the gender of this precious new baby!

Long Overdue and a Recipe!

As usual I can't believe how long it has been since I last posted! Life seems to get the best of me and honestly I so enjoy reading other peoples blogs that I forget about my own. I got some really cute pictures of little Miss. Lainey the other day so perhaps Michael can help me post them soon!

Here is a recipe that our family really enjoys. It is a hit with the adults and kids. I love it because with food prices going up it is a wonderful way to use a more inexpensive cut of meat!

Annie Weber Chicken

9 chicken thighs bone in skin on
1 cup orange juice
1/4 cup soy sauce (I use Braggs Liquid Amino's)
1/4 cup brown sugar or honey
a few dashes of cayenne pepper depending how spicy you like it

Place the chicken in a 9x13 pan and broil in the oven till it's browned on top. While broiling the chicken mix the orange juice, brown sugar, soy sauce, and cayenne pepper together. When chicken is finished broiling pour mixture over it and place back in the oven. Bake at 350* for one hour. Serve over rice and make sure you spoon some of the juice over it.

I have doubled this recipe with no problems and have even substituted lime juice when I did not have orange juice.
